Juneteenth Independence Day Parade & Festival

Friday, June 15 – Sunday, June 17, 2012

The Jabari Society of Bergen County is a chapter of the International Association of Black Professional Firefighters. The name Jabari is derived from the Swahili noun meaning brave one. From the day of Jabari’s inception in 1993, the mission has remained the same. Our purpose is to maintain professional competence, educational awareness, community concern and the establishment of unity and brotherhood within our communities. We dedicate ourselves to keep alive the interest of all fire service personnel current and future, of educational or employment opportunity within our community and fire departments.

The Jabari Society covers the cost of operations from the membership dues comprised of Englewood Professional Firefighters . We have donated annually to the community for the past 14 years through various programs, such as scholarships to Dwight Morrow High School Seniors; several whom have gone on to earn college degrees. Our “Annual Back to School Cookout” provides area students with school supplies, music, food, fun and games. The “Annual Safe, Fun Halloween Party” provides a safe environment for area students where we provide food, fun, music, prizes, and treat bags to all attending. Our bi-annual fundraising Dinner Dance is our most anticipated event serving as an opportunity to bring our community together, to recognize local residents for their community service. The fundraising efforts from this event also allows us to continue to better serve our community.
